One of my fashion tips for people, no matter their budget is learning how dress high to low. This means knowing when to splurge and when to save money on those fashion pieces you have your eye on. I personally invest in classic items that don’t go out of season very often like great denim, a perfect fitting trench coat, handbags and shoes. When it comes to really trendy items, I don’t like to spend a lot of money and shop at stores like Zara, H & M, Target and so forth. When mixing garments with different price points you tend to create a more polished and balanced look. Knowing where to spend and save your money is key in creating a well rounded closet.

With Valentine’s Day this weekend I wanted to share my special look that I’ll be wearing. Trying to step out of the normal all red or white look, I wanted an updated look and played with color. This bright coral Chesea28 dress is incredible, the fit, the hue and the ruffles! I zipped it on and fell in love! My Cupcakes and Cashmere jacket is a new purchase and it helped creat a great balance for the vibrant dress. I wanted a piece that tied everything together, so I chose a favorite floral print clutch that I’ve had for a couple years. With so much color, nude heels are a must in order to created a well balanced and fun look.

Finding the perfect little black dress can be extremely taunting as many of you know. Thankfully after years of searching I’ve finally found one that I’m obsessed with. This Leith midi by Nordstrom is so comfortable, transitional and flattering for all body types. It’s been a staple item in their stores for a couple of seasons now, and my only wish is that it came in more colors! I’ve worn this dress for formal events like New Years, in the office, dressed down on the weekends, and everything in between. If I had to choose my favorite thing about this dress besides the fit, it would be the thick fabric, it’s very forgiving and has a great feel to it.

Living in the Pacific Northwest you see a lot of plaid, it’s everywhere, and for most people it’s a staple. Staying true to my own personal style, I like to add a little glam to dress up my checks. The look this week is a perfect example of just that. I added statement necklace, faux fur vest paired with my favorite Topshop ripped jeans, ankle boots and a gorgeous YSL clutch. When trying to dress up a more casual piece, try to add pieces that you feel good in and compliment each other.

With a new year I wanted to mix things up and start a new series that allows me to share more about myself and some of my favorite pieces from my closet. To start things off I put together an easy work day look that has subtle pops of color during these dark Seattle winters. With wet weather, bare legs aren’t the most practical so like to wear thicker tights to add an extra layer of warmth. Covered legs allow me to wear some of my summer dresses year round which helps keep my wardrobe fresh with more options. Lately I’ve been all about vests, I’ve even purchased three in the last couple months. This Topshop one is probably my favorite to date. I love the clean tailored lines and it seems to elevate even the most casual outfits.
